I'm actually surprised that a notoriously conservative company like #Nintendo came up with #Labo. DYI cardboard peripherals are _very_ easy to replicate without Nintendo's approval. For a company hell-bent on protecting it's IP, this is a fairly awkward step. A sign of the times?
"To retain this status quo, ISPs have spent decades writing and buying state laws that prohibit towns and cities from exploring community owned and operated broadband networks (...) which not only hamstring municipal broadband providers, but often ban towns and cities from striking public/private partnerships."
Community owned ISPs are offering better service and lower fees? Better squash them in the name of the Holy Free Market!
"The modern profusion of things that are collective without being state-dependent (...) attests to peopleโs talent for making things happen; and the solutions they come up with tend to have deeper roots than most things imposed from the top."
A testament to the strength of #cooperative movements around the world, I guess. If the left is to survive the neo-nazi tide, it better embrace coops ASAP
Notice how the "positive vision" implies citizens hooked to their VR visors while corporate power goes literally hand in hand with the machines. Also, that single working guy (which just HAS to be a white male) seems to have a huge salary, given the amount of shit dem drones and driverless cars are delivering...
"To make the best use of the TLB, every mainstream operating system splits the range of virtual addresses into two. One half of the addresses is used for each program; the other half is used for the kernel."
Basically, #Meltdown and #Spectre are exploits of what already is an exploit of the TLB design... Interesting stuff!
@HerraBRE an interesting point, but won't a performance hit will happen regardless, as the proposed patches basically prevent concurrent execution of code?
"Milton Tootoosis, a Cree Nation headman (councillor or elder), said that the game โperpetuates this myth that First Nations had similar values that the colonial culture has, and that is one of conquering other peoples and accessing their land. That is totally not in concert with our traditional ways and world view.โ
Why would anyone believe adding a historically peaceful nation to a 4X game would be a good idea is beyond me...
