@Are0h @sir @jalcine I'm running a fork of this too, using stripe on the backend.

Pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy Nextcloud was to configure.
I should have done this a long time ago!

@FssOfDeath @sconlan no experience directly with either.
I have heard a bunch of folks in the cryptocurrency world using and recomending nord for various reasons, but who knows.
that being said, i use a combo of protonvpn and my own openvpn server that I mostly use for remote access to the home server.

@FssOfDeath @sconlan I'm honestly a little put off by how heavily they're advertising.
It screams VC & alternative revenue streams. No one is investing that heavily to make some $5/mo subscriptions, and break even in 10 years.

Linux question:
Would you prefer to have a program default to opening a file with $EDITOR or $VISUAL? Why?
I've read https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/4859/visual-vs-editor-what-s-the-difference, but am still not sure which is the better way to go

@kaniini take it from someone who's been developing and deploying with it daily for 5 years now, it's a hot mess.

@Sally_Hadden @FssOfDeath apparently you can also use nextcloud + a webdav compatible client (haven't dug into much yet)

@FssOfDeath @Sally_Hadden a few things I've found so far are jellyfin and airsonic, but neither jump out as an excellent solution.

Is there a #FOSS & #selfhosted spotify alternative?
I don't use spotify for music discovery or anything, and own already 90% of the music I listen to on there already, but don't have to sync shit to my phone and desktop.
I'd love to stream all my own stuff to my own devices without having huge local libraries.

@sconlan IMO Proton VPN is about as good as it gets, and has their 'secure core' to route through non-eyes countries initially.

@GrooveStomp na sorry mate, last time I looked into that -- you had to subscribe to a service for each sport, and they were all super expensive.
