@WAHa_06x36 also you could probably make a really neat "DECODING PASSWORD: " animation with this, huh.

@halcy OR, time to type in string and pad them until the length works out right and it is parsed:

@halcy I also made this amazing code that generates blurhashes from four corner colours, and I unreservedly love the results of just feeding it random colours: https://github.com/woltapp/blurhash/blob/master/Swift/BlurHashKit/Generation.swift

@halcy Looking at the "mark media as sensitive" checkbox and giggling slightly.

LB: Linked in the github, here's my pure python blurhash de/encoder: https://github.com/halcy/blurhash-python/
Blurhash is super neat and basically every web application should use it honestly. It's also very easy to implement going of either the reference implementation or any other.

@Gargron For those who don't know what this is, it's used to hide sensitive images in the latest Mastodon versions, and also as a placeholder while loading images.
It's supported in the web UI and in Toot! at the moment, but any client should be able to add it now.

I've finally managed to open-source this project which I created at work, but which is now also in use by Mastodon:
https://github.com/woltapp/blurhash
There is a nice little demo page where you can play with it here:
Toot! already supports it for image placeholders while loading, but other clients should easily be able to include it too.

@wasamasa Finally. Of all the things holding Unix back, X has been one of the biggest, I am pretty sure.

@janellecshane "Sobering Reality Check" is absolutely spot on, as is "A Small Note of Disrespect".

@maloki This is an ideological dead end that free software ideology has apparently chosen for itself, and I don't really see how it can get out of this without completely tearing out the foundations of the ideology, which I don't think many people are ready to do.

@maloki The problem I've had is that free software activists place software rights above all other rights dogmatically, and will not budge on this.
It is seen as more important to make software free to use for everyone than to stop software being used for evil. The tenets of free software explicitly encode this, and any license that tries to restrict usage by those who will do harm is seen as "not free software".

@halcy Oh I hope they do, then we can detect gab instances by checking if it is missing.
