#NewPipe really has developed into a fully-fledged, amazing app!
Just look at their website, which is like non other I've seen before for an Open Source project not backed by a company. They even have a press page with logos and media (something that sadly many professional projects often lack) <3

I haven't donated to too many projects before because it included sending money via bitcoin here, bank wire there, and PayPal somewhere else.

* BACKUPS are back! It is somewhat hidden though under Settings -> Chats & Media -> scroll down to the far bottom
* Unlock the app with your fingerprint (convenient so you can set a shorter locking time)
* Lock registering your phone number by setting a pin (depends on your threat level, probably good for investigative journalists et alii)
* Customs notifications for each chat

(I understand that there is a need for law enforcement to have some means of doing their work.
But these things should still require a court's approval, especially when we're talking about request from foreign countries with other privacy laws and other political - sometimes non-democratic - systems)

TLDR: Numerous patches on the mailing lists, some don't even build, kernel devs worked on #Meltdown first, had no real info in #Spectre, no upstream fixes yet
