    @strypey Don't you think "embrace, extend, extinguish" depends on us accepting their propositions though? (eg. using Github), maybe out of convenience, cost saving, or even necessity (eg. using it to survive capitalism).

    Hence we need networked alternatives (making them protocol-based means we can achieve 'network effects' and scale cooperatively, rather than each small initiative having to fight that battle again and again) that are not only convenient and attractive to use, but which also help us thrive economically (something @matslats and others have been working on for a long time)...

    By changing this in Nginx config:

    try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?q=$uri&$args;

    To this:

    try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args ;

    @neil It seems to be a trend (being built-in to the distributed Reddit alternative https://getaether.net/ for example) but while may make sense for private discussions that happen in public and other random thoughts and rants, I fear that valuable information that was contributed to 'the commons' then gets lost. Maybe it could be done based to the audience of the original post (deleting DMs and unlisted & followers-only posts).

    I have sensitive eyes. After activating #DarkMode in my OS and every app that has it, the main thing missing was the web. Not anymore thanks to https://darkreader.org/ :)

    Thanks for checking. I do have pretty permalinks enabled and working, with Nginx rather than Apache though: location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?q=$uri&$args; }

    There seems to be an issue with how rewrite is being handled in this case though, if I run curl -v "https://blog.mayel.space/.well-known/webfinger\?resource\=acct:blog@blog.mayel.space"
    it does a 302 redirect to https://blog.mayel.space/.well-known/webfinger?q=/.well-known/webfinger&resource=acct:blog@blog.mayel.space
    in an endless loop...

    https://blog.mayel.space/.well-known/webfinger without any query parameters loads though.
