Want to use a link shortener on #Mastodon?
Don't! :blobsurprised: All links in Mastodon posts count for 23 characters, no matter how long they really are.

After seeing some videos on plan 9, I think it is mostly mouse driven. Won't it be difficult to switch between openbsd, where I can get all ur jobs done with the keyboard. Is there something I don't know about the keyboard"only" usage on plan 9
#fsf #RMS #GPL #EMACS Met RMS, shook hands, talked to him, questioned him, listened to him. Here are my thoughts on his talk. http://srinicame.blogspot.com/2019/01/meeting-rms-at-mandyaonce-in-lifetime.html?m=1

@uuim
I did a re-install. Now everything is fine
Going to do some write-ups tonight for some some BBSes. Still a long way to go, and I'm still just on the 'A's!
I hope by doing this I can expose the wider world to BBSes once again and help Sysops to grow their communities(If they want it grown, that is).
I think BBSes are still a valid form of community. We should embrace them again. Tildes, BBSes, IRC, Matrix, Tox etc should pave the way towards a new future.
Working on separating the pixelfed filesystem abstraction into its own service with a circuit breaker to prevent wasabi outages from impacting the pixelfed instance.
I love geeking out on technical stuff like this, I've never taken a CS class so I'm learning on the fly 😅
I was going to announce it a bit later and more properly, but Mastodon received a $70k grant from Samsung NEXT through OpenCollective. I intend to make it available to those who contribute to the project, and have already notified some of the most regular contributors. The way OpenCollective works is that anyone can submit an expense and all transactions are listed transparently. It also holds the money.
As for myself, I intend to continue using Patreon for my own wage/costs.
@mwlucas Speaking of good software stewards, I feel like VideoLAN doesn't get nearly enough credit for literally turning down millions in cash and NOT inserting adware into VLC.
Whenever a web browser, operating system, or web site gains dominance among users, it stops being cool and starts becomes blatantly abusive.
This Chromium nonsense is just more of what we saw from Internet Explorer.
Every generation of geeks learns this anew, and acts all shocked. Learn some history, folks. Learn from those who came before.
Stop supporting only one platform. Variety is ESSENTIAL. Monocultures are death. #sysadmin
Inspired by Twitter, we took our data export tool to the next level. It will be shipping in v0.9.0! 🚀#pixelfed
Just used F-Droid to install G-Droid. And that's basically everything you need to know about the concept of #freesoftware. #opensource #freeyourandroid #fsfe
Micro UI Update: Designing the profile cards. It should be pretty close after this. Can't wait to share this with pleroma!

@mvdwrd If you're not already following @romanzolotarev, he has a steady stream of OpenBSD tips, tricks, and you get to watch him spar with his system.
32 years of no ads, no banners, no session cookies, no persistent log files, user directed features and software. did you join arpa in 1994? happy 25th! lets celebrate on 16-Jun-2019 for https://sdf.org platform and what can we do next?
Writeup on Installing KDE Plasma Mobile onto a Raspberry Pi, part of my TinkPhone project.
Cheers to all that helped and offered encouragement and support!
We need a logo for the #fediverse because when people equate #Mastodon to the entirety of the #fediverse like how @nextcloud did with that image at the bottom, we have a problem https://github.com/nextcloud/social
… Google+ Circles, Google+ Communities, Google+ Stream, Groups, Handsfree, Hangouts, Hangouts on Air, Home App, Input Tools, Keep, Location History, Mail, Maps, Maps (your places), My Activity, My Maps, News, Posts on Google, Profile, Purchases & Reservations, Reminders, Saved, Search Contributions, Street View, Tasks, Textcube, Voice, and YouTube data.”
And that’s just Google. Not what Alphabet, Inc. has on me. No data they bought from brokers. No derived data.
I have been completely removed from Facebook for a full year. It has been the best year in recent memory. OBSERVATIONS:
1) I'm still "connected" to current events. I'm just not bombarded with a thousand "rage-bait" rants about it.
2) I'm still connected with everyone that matters. We've shared the responsibility of staying in touch. Sometimes it's on me to reach out, sometimes it's on them. The people who haven't kept up with me, were just a relationship of ceremony and convenience.
3) I'm substantially less depressed. Surprising no one, I guess. It didn't cure depression, but it alleviated that which it brought: A lot.
4) I'm still super social online. I have community here and a few other places. We do things together, and don't just try to whip ourselves into a fury.
5) I've gained a meaningful perspective: *MY* perspective. Getting away from the manipulative pieces of those social media sites has given me enough clarity to be, well... "me."
YMMV
