    Is it normal that I get physically ill when my co-workers talk proudly about using VS Code ?

    That seems like a normal response to me.

    So I decided to actually use #pocket. Not just in #firefox, but sign up for it and use it.

    Over the last few months I've found most of the stories I get recommended are the kind of light clickbait and opinion found on sites like vox or vice. Very little of what people are calling 'fake news', but also very little of substance. Same for when I perform searches in pocket.

    It's not bad for what it is, but I'm fairly certain I don't need what it is.

    Some things that I have noticed since I quit #Facebook:

    - My family still loves me and still talks to me
    - Old friends from high-school still talk to me
    - Old friends from college still talk to me
    - I still meet new people
    - I still make new friends
    - I still shop at local businesses
    - I'm still aware of events in my community

    Huh, it's almost like I never needed Facebook in the first place.

    If I were to set up a pixelfed instance, would people want to use it? It looks like I can probably run it on Linode for $5-$10/month so server costs wouldn't be too big of a problem, maybe someone just mails me some beer once in a while?

    the fediverse reminds me a lot of how things used to be in the '90s a.k.a. the golden age of computing

    back when we all had our own dorky fuckin websites on tripod or angelfire or geocities, all unique, all human

    back before the internet was taken over by soulless monolithic corporations bent on forcing spy cameras into their users' every orifice

    back before advertisers had built themselves a surveillance empire to dwarf the NSA's

    back when we were all genuine and sincere and *ourselves.* even if we were total fuckin dorks

    all of a sudden these little grassroots social spaces are popping up, with unique and quirky domains, full of people who aren't such cowards that they spend their lives hiding behind a curtain of ironic detachment. it's like the experimental chaos of the '90s but tempered by experience and improved by new technology

    there's a reason IRC and pleroma are the only ways i actually *like* interacting with ppl online

    The biggest scam of green capitalism is putting the burden and blame of recycling on consumers instead of producers and distributors who make and proliferate all the crap that is meant to find itself in a garbage bin 5 seconds after use to begin with.

    #freebsd is surprising me every week. All of a sudden the WiFi of my lappy stopped working. Spent a couple of hours on the public network. Added the following in /etc/rc.conf and it started working. I had not added any additional configuration since the WiFi hardware was detected during setup.

    wlan_wep_load="YES"
    wlan_ccmp_load="YES"
    wlan_tkip_load="YES"
    wpa_supplicant_enable="YES"
    synchronous_dhclient="YES"
    wlans_iwm0="wlan0"
    create_args_wlan0="country IN"

    #freebsd Which of the above made it to work well be a mystery and right now I will keep it that way. Thanks to all the knowledge shared on the public network. Now imagine the solution on Islands like f*#book or g*#@. How difficult would it be to search out.

    Opps what's up here?

    Duckduckgo now started to send a request to "improve.duckduckgo.com" on each search request including: The search term, the country and some other information.

    The good news is that they have a document about it:
    https://duck.co/help/privacy/atb

    Make up your own mind about it. "Privacy by design" is their statement. Do you think that's privacy by design? uBlock Origin decided to cancel those requests on my side.

    WTF. you guys can't get the spelling of Kannada right. A person who doesn't know nothing about our language spelt out Kannada properly. You are spelling it kannad. Your flier talked about localisation in a big way. You don't know the first"word" of localisation. PLEASE correct the toot with "Kannada"
