Harris hawks are emo softies and no one will ever convince me otherwise. They occasionally try and look mean but they almost always look like they're about to cry #birbposting

Bad idea of the day: prototype the future but in AGPL code so startups can't steal it. Then, everybody else gets to use it for free.

Decided to see what would happen if I trained a neural net to write names for self-aware AIs.
May I present: GPT-2 trained on AI names from Iain M. Banks's Culture novels

and then I consider my radical free software and political stance and how I refuse to use any of these corporations customer facing services and maybe that means I wouldn't even get a job there
that may be a double edged sword

im finally having to make the decision to be a cog in the corporate world. if im going to be a wage slave does it matter which company I work for? im thinking of moving to SV for the cushy job, but i'm not sure if be comfortable working at a place like google or amazon (assuming I get a job there; and there are places I would never work: palantir, facebook)
how do I balance out gaining experience and making money while still being responsible?

@feonixrift yeah I imagine there would be but i'm not super sure, elixir is still a pretty niche language esp for data analysis as far as I'm aware
nah gitlab seems like a totally reasonable place to host it :) let me know how I can help! maybe I could help with the tests and stuff once the docs are done? i'm not really sure how i'd help with docs which is why I'm suggesting this but let me know if I can :)
that's perfectly fine :) are you using this project to get back into elixir? I've only really done koans in elixir so this would be my first project.

@feonixrift
i meant network libs as in network theory, like NetworkX for python, not real networking libsoooh sounds good. and each of these rates are the same for all nodes of that type?
i see, that a very good project. will you be releasing source or accepting contributions? ive been meaning to learn elixir and would be interested to help out if i could :) -

@feonixrift
oooh very cool! i just finished a course on network theory myself and it's very interesting stuff. we actually had to do something very similar to this involving social networks! does elixir have a network library?also how are you planning on setting the rate of interactions? are you gonna be modelling federated SNs or just regular ones?
