which brings me back to your point:
regulation plays into their hands, by ensuring only they are big enough to comply

@jonw @lilithsaintcrow I'm not sure I agree. The internet and many services run atop it are increasingly becoming a requirement for participation in modern society.
Like how the homeless need cell phones to get a job more than they need a physical address these days. -

Not really. People have to use utilities, hence the name. People don't have to use Facebook or Twitter.
Facebook and Twitter would go away if people simply stopped using them. No government intervention required.

Facebook destroys everything it touches. It needs to be treated like a public utility and regulated. So does Twitter.

In 2002, I ran my entire OS out of a RAM disk, writing to the physical disk once a minute or less.I had a pentium iii with 1GB of RAM, and used 256MB of it for the OS.
It was the fastest, most responsive machine I've ever used.

If you put a computer in charge of solving some decision-making problem, keep in mind that computers can't make decisions.
You are actually putting programmers in charge.
And if that doesn't terrify you, go ask a programmer how much they trust software.

People should learn to hate companies and cops, as much as they hate individual rich people for having it easy. Our anger is more based in spite than desire for retribution.
