    @kaniini You know, if you pull in ejabberd you could turn Pleroma into a proper ~platform~. There's even a Web frontend that could probably be pressed into service. With SRV records for XMPP and ActivityPub the combination could be great for onboarding: user@example.com automagically works for both protocols. Plus you don't have to reinvent all the features that.. users... will inevitably start demanding. Like e2ee.

    @zash can attest to the pain that awaits you if you (as in the AP people) decide to just repeat all the problems the XMPP people have already had to deal with.

    @velartrill These are some pretty good points, but I feel like I should point out that with Bitcoin or any other PoW system this waste is a feature. Part of the reason why Bitcoin or any other PoW cryptocurrency is scarce and thus has value, is because electricity costs money. Another part is that electricity is commodified, and anyone is allowed to buy electricity on the market, for any reason, without justification.

    @nd3jr Yeah, if you have space constraints then it's probably a must. Hack it into an old treadle powered sewing machine and it might even be kinda comfy :]

    But: based APRS telemetry of the PV sensor I have on my property at 64°N, a 1.6 m² panel should put out enough power even during December to keep a lead-acid battery charged, so that you run a QRP rig 24/7 off that battery

    @nd3jr I'd say solar panels are a better choice than pedals, else all of this is good advice. If you have a small generator, you might rig up a small (2-3 meter) wind turbine
