@SDF I was there yesterday and completely missed your table. I'm back home now. Where's your table at VCFMW?

@Shufei I don't know as I'm new to all this myself. That said @nivex has a couple of suggestions in this thread:

@Shufei If it wasn't for someone here on the Fediverse pointing me to this, I'm sure I'd be completely lost:
http://www.asteriskdocs.org/en/3rd_Edition/asterisk-book-html/asterisk-book.html
As it is I'm going through the book, learning as I go & implementing the examples when I can. It's still a lot to take in, though.
My ultimate plan is to get everything working internally, then use a SIP trunk provider to be able to call outside my network. I won't use it for ham radio

Finally something #HamRadio related:
Had a nice chat last night after getting home from bowling and dinner with Matt, KC4EGG. We were on the Skyview repeater at first, but when we discovered that we lived on the same street just in two directly-adjacent towns, we switched to 2 meter simplex. He remarked that the audio was cleaner on simplex than it was on the repeater. We lowered our power down to 5 watts and were still crystal-clear
Never dismiss simplex if you live close to another ham.

@jjg @kelbot @haitch @vertigo Actually we're running a (bastardized, IMO) clone of a minicomputer operating system (Unix was first developed on a PDP-7) on our phones. Still nuts, but not as much as running a mainframe OS like, for example, z/OS.

@nico
They can start by stop trying to be a bad copy of Google Chrome and instead embrace their own advantages. The extensibility of Firefox (and Seamonkey, though that project's more removed than Firefox) was and still is its greatest strength. Another is offering more options to users, which is the antithesis of Chrome due to Google treating every user like they're 5 years old. -

I want to move off this couch but Freyja looks so content laying against my leg. I don't have the heart to disturb her. #Cats #MastoCats

I really need to participate in the governance of social.coop more. There's so much going on that it seems overwhelming at times, but I joined this instance because I wanted to be part of one that I could have a stake and a vote in, and quite frankly I'm disappointed in myself for not having participated much in the governance.
But, it's not too late for me to change that.

Anyone know of any alternatives to meetup.com? Searching on the web I found openmeetup.net but it looks like they're dead.

I won't do it now due to me having bowling soon and I want more time, but today's the day I'll be leaving Twitter for good. I'll have my last tweet after I get back from bowling tonight.
In the meantime, I want to say I'm so glad I found Mastodon, and both Octodon and social.coop. I've found the communities here to be both more laid-back and something I feel like I fit in with more than I ever did on Twitter.

Does anyone know of or written an article on how to use Mastodon? I've got at least two people who've made their way here from Twitter who could use some help.
I'm not talking about articles about Mastodon, but actual articles on how to use it. Tutorials, if you will.

@miramarco
Having worked in the industry myself at one point, I want to add broadcast technicians to that list.
