    @matrix So instead of say writing a competent XMPP client, you now have to maintain this bridge which translates your own made-up protocol to XMPP, on top writing a spec for said protocol, and maintaining Synapse, and maintaining Riot

    Though I understand that events have overtaken me, I find it hard to believe ActivityPub brings anything to the table that OStatus and XMPP for person-to-person communication could not have solved satisfactory.

    The New Horizons spacecraft is due to fly past Ultima Thule, an icy Kuiper Belt Object, at around 5:30 am on January 1st. It’ll scream past at ridiculous speed, and send back the most distant photographs ever taken of anything anywhere.

    It’s so far away, that even though those transmissions travel at the speed of light, it’ll take 6 hours before they reach Earth.

    I think this sounds like a good start to 2019!
