    @garbados The state ultimately uses deadly force to maintain its power, so them being armed isn't surprising.

    I looked up Oregon's gun laws, and concealed carry permits are pretty common. So maybe they're just scared of occupiers secretly being armed. Or it's just intimidation and them being cowards.

    @garbados Try to get some that run on 12V. That way you can easily hook them up to a car battery, which should last a couple of days. In some cases lower voltage ones will work fine (like 9V ones) since there's *usually* a regulator on the input

    @garbados Well, there's the OpenWRT wiki (https://wiki.openwrt.org/). I managed to figure out how to flash my DIR-825, and those are trickier than normal. What I would do is go through the local computer hardware stores and thrift stores and jot down what they have. With thrift stores you can just buy them anyway because they'll likely be useful, and cheap. With normal stores, jot down what they have in stock and check the wiki (https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start) for what might be the least hassle. Get one with at least two radios.

    There's some low-tech solutions to increase range, like building a little dish from foil glued to bent cardboard or a plastic bottle (http://www.instructables.com/id/Cheap-and-easy-WIFI-antenna-signal-booster-that-is/ if you can stand all the JS crap). You'll get higher gain from the dish at 5.7 Ghz than 2.4 GHz

    @iona Can't mobile phones in the US be 3G/4G->WiFi access points? Mine sure can.

    Ah, it seems #AV1 got finalized for realsies and will be playable in both chrome and firefox soon: https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5729898442260480

    This is at base interesting for #peertube as it is a nextgen royalty free codec(format to store videos), but it is also sorta important for us Krita devs to keep track of because much like hevc has heif, av1 will have avif, which would be a sort of nextgen jpeg.
