@jack Arriving early also means leaving early.

@Wolf480pl I think that would be an important part of it, yes. You'd need to design it with the assumption that people act on incentives, not rules. You'd also need to figure out a fix for democracy itself. Campaigns and elections are flawed.

I woke up a bit too early because of hypoglycemia, so I decided I might as well just go to work early. I got here at 07:30.

I've been an hour at work already, but no one's shown up yet. Then again, it's only 08:30.

@jack I've never been very good at play for play's sake. I learned to code as a kid because I wanted to create things on a computer for other people to use. I was a fairly serious kid...

Capitalism and socialism are both wonderful ideas. What makes them awful in practice is human behaviour.
If we let cynics design a form of government, it would work perfectly, but cynics would never design forms of government.

While I try to make gadgets that might be useful, my work colleagues geek out over a miniature arcade machine with a coin slot that they found online.
Reminds me of when I was still taking music seriously as a potential career path. No one really cared much for my serious work, but when I did low-effort joke music, people paid attention.
Yes, I could switch to making useless yet entertaining gadgets and I'm sure they'd go viral overnight, but I wouldn't feel proud of my work.

@jack Sure, but if you define "sound" as something that can be heard, then ultrasound and infrasound aren't sound, and the notion of "sound waves" becomes absurd.
It's more of a semantic question than a philosophy question. Then again, philosophy is sometimes stupid like that. I've seen philosophical arguments that only work if you speak English, because they rely on the fact that two different concepts are described by the same word in English.
Also, as is obvious, this was a joke.

I'm going to spank Jack Dorsey (and the inventors of ActivityPub) for not allowing you to edit posts.

If you let one rip with your headphones on, and no one heard it, did it still make a sound?

Smoked pork chops need a lot more time than they typically get during a normal BBQ. I took mine through a long journey:
1. Fried them, but they weren't well-cooked on the inside.
2. Boiled them in their own fat for a while with the lid on the frying pan.
3. Ate one, decided it still wasn't tender enough, and let the rest simmer with a lid on for a further one hour.
4. They were just about tender enough, but could have been even better after 2 hours.
TL;DR: How to cook pork chops? For ages.

I don't like how things just keep disappearing from the Internet. I can't find stuff I knew was there a year or two ago, and there is no way of getting it back.

I can't find a trace of an ad drawing that was all over the city a couple of years ago.

@Othinus @awg I didn't explicitly say what my username was, but assumed people would guess, because:
1. I said "my take" and the person being replied to is only asking, and that only leaves one other user in the screenshot.
2. Poster's name starts with Th, my name starts with Th.
3. It looks like one of my Mastodon rants..
4. Poster is European, I'm European.
