Over four million Internet users have signed the petition against the #CopyrightDirective, and today, US sites including @Reddit and EU sites including Germany's @Wikipedia protested it even further, with blackouts and error messages. https://gizmodo.com/wikipedia-and-reddit-stage-eleventh-hour-protest-agains-1833464638

Repos hosted on GitHub and similar platforms often leak crypto secrets and API keys:
https://www.ndss-symposium.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/ndss2019_04B-3_Meli_paper.pdf (PDF file)
β researchers scanned 13% of public GitHub repos
β 100,000 repos contained secrets; thousands of new secrets are leaked every day
β GitHub develops "token scanning" to help removing secrets, however, dedicated scanners like TruffleHog are ineffective according to the paper#github #gitlab #token #key #leak #infosec #cybersecurity #security #development #trufflehog

@Mtony75 Sure. Nothing about this is easy. The problem is massive and far reaching. Effective solutions must be comprehensive.
The tech world has been a lawless wild west for too long, and the consequences have been devastating -- our economies, jobs, self esteem, relationships, health, and our vital democratic systems desperately need to be saved and protected.
All industries have to play by rules to protect people and the environment. When they get a pass, we all suffer.

@semordnilap That puts responsibility on the victims. It's like saying we don't need laws against breaking and entering, but should educate people to more effectively lock up their stuff.
Anarchy for corporations with laws for the people is backwards, and the sort of thinking that created monsters nearly beyond control -- more powerful than nearly any group of people or government.
Users absolutely should be better educated, but not in place of comprehensive regulation.

How much longer is Facebook's gross negligence and deliberate disregard for security and privacy going to be tolerated?
Facebook must be broken up, and all tech companies must be comprehensively regulated.

In 2017 we documented the orwellian work of IBM in the Philippines under Duterte, now @theintercept sheds further light on the situation. @IBM, still nothing to say about this?

@varx haha. Ah. Good point. I suppose it would be pretty nice if more things like that had a local client for editing.

@varx Ah. Is that really much of a benefit? It seems flat sites would also make a lot of things harder (but maybe not impossible) or error prone as well -- things like versioning and quick roll-back, collaboration, facilitating multiple users with different privileges, allowing someone to approve posts before they are visible on the site, extensibility, rich text editing with images, etc.
A CMS, be it WordPress or something else, seems an ideal way to manage a blog or web site.
