@ada I usually say, "real space." It's accurate, intuitive, and concise. π

@mxsiege Let's also stop calling transition "irreversible damage." It's change, not destruction.

@eff Who needs WhatsApp at all?
There are so many other good chat programs that aren't owned by such an unethical company.

@thurloat Ah, yeah. That's a pain. Fortunately, nothing I need only runs on Windows. Hopefully, all the kit you need will be available without that sort of requirement soon. π

@Theophilus @thurloat Yeah. Similar here. I can't stand Windows. So I will always find a way to avoid running it. That's pretty easy these days. I haven't come across anything vital in my work that required me to run it on my desktop in quite a few years now.
Linux is on 90%+ of the machines I manage, and (in my case) I can even take care of the few Windows servers via my Fedora workstation with no problems.
I don't really play games, which makes things even easier. π

@thurloat @Theophilus Nice. My company uses it the same way. Why do you have to run Windows? Does your employer force you yo have it on your desktop?

That story about the guy that died without telling the password to access millions in cryptocoin just got wilder. Turns out the wallets were empty. AND:
"However, the company said, it found evidence that Mr Cotten had 14 other user accounts "created outside the normal process" that may have been used to trade on the QuadrigaCX exchange."

@Wraptile Thanks for that. π
I do know how compilation works -- that part of my post is more of a legal / ethical question, rather than a technical one. The compiled copies for download actually have a different license as per the VS Code web site. It doesn't seem usual for the two forms of a program (binary vs source) to legally have different licenses (but hey, maybe it is).

I'm taking a #Python programming course and our instructor asked us to use Visual Studio Code.
I was hesitant at first, though I have warmed up to it and now think VS Code is the first Microsoft program I've really liked since Microsoft Decathlon (I was a little kid then, and it wasn't new. :P).
That said, I still don't feel super comfortable about using a product from such a notorious company, and the code is open source but the binary isn't. (wtf??).

I would probably subscribe to all the feeds on such an instance, in any case! π
