I am glad people are talking about the rms stuff over here and not just on twitter. I hope we an all have a more nuanced discussion about the future of something that is very important not just for the fediverse but for the future of our civilization. By that I mean the health of the “free culture” movement. Having someone as careless with their words as rms is seems to be counter to that. Regardless of their place in history and what they have achieved.

@icedquinn I am personally not “canceling” rms as a person, they have every right to say what ever they think. but they are the figurehead of something I care deeply about and they are tone deaf to an incredible amount of issues. I do not think they are fit any longer to be in the position of power that they are in. responding with “kill me know” shows that your the one overreacting.

@sheogorath thanks for the explanation! So the sandboxing is not just about per processes/tab capabilities but capabilities in general for all of the different actions Signal may support. Seems like Signal being built on Electron might be the biggest vulnerability!

@sheogorath I assume the simple explanation isn’t really appropriate in this case as Signal is not letting you navigate outside of its own services. Like how would one take advantage of this insecurity?

Reading about the RMS drama. Does really seem like they shouldn’t be in any position of power. They seem completely tone deaf as to the implications of their words.

@fedilab I really love logo contests, I think its a good way to get people in the design field into open source. I totally disagree with the person who scorned you for it. Coming from someone who submitted a (not very good) logo to a logo contest you have had in the past.
