Thanks to @dthompson for giving us the nice holiday gift of podcast (enclosure) support for atom feeds in Haunt. I did my own part for the patch-gift exchange for submitting a patch upstream that adds support for RSS feeds, too.
Happy patch-holidaze, everyone!

all that's left is to build + install the shelves, sand, and apply a finish.

thought I would finish the bookcase project today but things always take way longer than I expect. I had a lot of trouble making tight fitting miter joints for some decorative molding and ended up just settling for a very flawed fit and filled in the cracks with a little sawdust and glue. sometimes you've just gotta move on...

@jim @federicomena pocket holes would certainly work here. I don't know how to make many types of joints, but I would use rabbets/grooves/dados for everything.

We have been watching monarchs this summer, so I read Anurag Agrawal's "Monarchs and Milkweed: a Migrating Butterfly, a Poisonous Plant, and Their Remarkable Story of Coevolution" with a lot of thrill. Milkweed is trying to kill monarchs with latex and cardenolides, but monarchs sequester cardenolides for their own defence.

The hardbound edition is excellently produced, well-written, and I want a copy for myself.
Agrawal's blog is great too:

planted those maximilian sunflowers in the hedgerow with some others. Andrea didn't know those other ones were there and mowed them awhile back, but they are still alive! hardy little things.
I also planted all of the bulbs I bought awhile ago, mostly around tree trunks to suppress weeds.

this is one of the few varieties of perennial sunflower. I've read that it needs very little attention, grows tall, and will grow even in poor soil. I've grown some of these from seeds but they are still quite small. these already started ones will help me build my privacy hedge faster.

planted my seed garlic. 1lb of chesnok red that I ordered, and maybe 1/2lb or so of Music from my harvest this year. I completely filled up the bed that I normally plant potatoes in as well and still had some leftovers, so I tucked cloves in between currants in another bed to serve as more of a polyculture.

@cwebber I always think of these things like they happened just a few years ago, but now that I think about it I saw that for the first time 14 years ago.

spoke too soon about performance. added a quicksort to sort sprites by Y coordinate and performance absolutely tanked.
