    True. There are one or two which have no connectivity for kids, but cheap and not sure how long they would last. Running GadgetBridge for mine, which puts a layer of protection in, I think.

    #son1 wants a fitness-tracking watch. How can you tell which ones report your child back to the chinese government, and which don't?

    (Or alternatively, how can you tell if data is being sent/leaked to companies without any control?)

    Knowing how to build something is difficult, and takes years of trial and error. But it's good, long term experience that any sustainable future will need to understand. Creativity is hard. Maintenance and defence is hard. All the passion and laws in the land won't change how hard it is to actively build a future.
