6gainManaged to order a new Entroware laptop last night. Took a couple of days to shuffle some btc, bch around, and to cash it out. As an experiment, bitcoin is currently usable, but too confusing and expensive for general use. No change there over the last 7 years then :) must write it up...
@11backslashes Thanks for replying. Thinking it through, direct access to info/requests would need a whole trust network setup. But it would be cool if you could easily access information on privacy policy and contact points in a known place.
"We are no longer swamped in a dialectic between disenchanting and the disenchantment that shaded in shadows the culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. We are at the gates of surrender. The surrender of humankind regarding the task of learning and self-teaching in order to live with more dignity."

6gainLooking through the GDPR, very interesting. Wondering about an extension to password managers which automates kicking off data removal, requests, etc. eg "Here's your login details for this service. Press this button to request your information from them."

6gain... If we take the idea of a specific conversation as a key social "unit", and that the social Internet should support these being established and "hosted" by a person or group, then we can start to get a bit more structure to our discourse than just "join this service and follow this hashtag and then bicker a lot".

6gain... Which isn't to say a move to federated services resolves the question of "who is hosting this conversation?" - on the contrary, it is still one large conversation with no real host, and there is a clear risk that federation can be a more confusing party than a clear, singly hosted space.

6gain... And not the technical hosting, but hosting in the combined sense of ownership / nurturing / encouragement, more like hosting a party. As we've moved to capitalist, global "conversations", we have implicitly defined these companies as our social hosts.
