If you use Instagram and your friends join Flickr instead, you'll have to move to Flickr or you'll lose contact with your friends.

If you use Pixelfed and your friends join Anfora... that's fine, because you can still follow each other as these platforms federate together through ActivityPub.

If any part of the ActivityPub network grows, all the platforms on the network get a bigger audience and all members get more potential friends.

Did I understand correctly that key base is a centralized identity provider ? How is that good ?

Every time I log onto twitter I just wanna scream “damn you live like this?!” but instead my eyes roll into the back of my head and I come back here.

Would it be reasonable to use mastodon itself (not just ActivityPub protocol) as a backend for sending machine-to-machine messages? It would be extremely helpful to use global infrastructure that someone else runs. Is this abusive / annoying / something else?

@mayel haha I am glad to see this. I tagged Activitypub in a few bathrooms in Berlin while I was there after it coming up in every conversation I was having.
