@applebaps *nods* i think i'm getting there, slowly. some approaches are ingrained enough for me, that it's hard not to think in them. fluency does help, though.

one of the more challenging aspects of using both: the piano roll system map in my head has been known to clash with the musical notation one. we've thought about trackers, but it'd either be a wholesale paradigm shift or three competing systems.

there's some software packages that try to address this with layers (Notion in particular, it has a very basic piano roll sequencer that overlays on top of the stave). not sure about trackers, though.

@applebaps that as well. notes can be mapped that way; it's hidden with in music notation, because of the respective frequencies (and their corresponding notes, relative to the standard pitch that's being used) not being graphed in conventional ways, but the topology is definitely there

@applebaps see, that's such a good way of putting it! as a musician, i'm more interested the elegance of the problem than the solution. solutions are for musicologists and music critics (hopefully, anyway). and computer scientists, in that "CS degree" sort of way.

this is the same way i look at coding, too. it may not be practical, but in both cases, having that be the parameters *all* the time? that's neither robust or healthy.
