@polymerwitch And meanwhile, small pockets of self-advocates are trying to push through, but there's also just a lot of...the kinds of things that happen when you're in the middle of a pile of bodies, trying to survive
Which is why I get really pissy when people start making assimilationist gestures, or one subgroup walks over the top of another (or sub-sub-group and so on)
@polymerwitch Which especially in terms of how revolutionaries like Leslie Feinberg used the term, as well as trans, wasn't the idea at all, but words can be slippery like that
@polymerwitch I think it might be useful for people who aren't familar, to look at the disability rights movement
The disability rights movement as a whole looks like a huge pile of bodies, with The Mighty and Autism Speaks and so on planting this tiny little flag on the top, and claiming it as theirs
Which is true for all other oppressed communities as well, but there's a lot less window dressing at the moment
(i don't know that much about supported decision making, but it definitely sounds loads better than conservatorship, especially if someone's parents or guardians are abusive af and leave them out of all decision making and input on their terms)
*Comes back later to bust out the person with Fragile X, which was an obvious swipe at "severe" autistics, as well as the hottie that had rock climbing as an interest that was gate-kept into conservatorship by their crappy parents, as an adult*
We definitely tried watching this ableist trash fire ("The Good Doctor") of a series, but season two was like "seriously? ok, we're out".
@packbat@LexYeen it's almost as if being a "free speech extremist" and a white supremacist are the same thing, effectively. as if one could even tell the difference, or if it matters (it doesn't)
