@JigmeDatse I did the same thing on Twitter, and for both ethical and personal reasons, decided it wasn't, when it became clear that they didn't care about a strong influx of far right users. That was more than I was willing to put up with, and so, I left.

@JigmeDatse In terms of whether that all is worth the personal risk to you? I can't answer that question for you. I do think that running an instance, as well as being on here at all to some degree, comes with risks, and figuring out if being here is worth those risks, is always a good question to ask.

@JigmeDatse Two, there's the message it sends to them. I know that "sending a message" can be used rhetorically to cover for "doing nothing, or worse than nothing", but in this case, it at least lets other admins, as wel as anybody who follows you, that you don't support them being here, on the basis of their very well-established reasons for being, and their actions.

@JigmeDatse This is a circular argument. You're saying on the one hand, my instance is too small to matter, and on the other, if I assert myself, I'm at risk.

Which means it does matter, at least to some degree. So that's one reason.

They're fascists, fairly openly, or so far right as to openly create a place for them to recruit. That's self-evident just from looking.

@JigmeDatse As I've already said, I would really like that not to happen. All I'm saying is that researching them would be a good idea, because giving them the benefit of a doubt in terms of being able to reach people and deradicalize them is both unlikely and out of scope to the very possible threat they present, as has been already established by their previous efforts.

@LexYeen Oh, idgaf about them paying taxes! That's fine. I'm talking about them being catered to by bourgie business owners, who then (at least in theory, hopefully reality) are paying taxes. The lack of Black ownership is a real problem though, and not a side issue.

I could make an argument about the state here in general, but like this is a robust example of why I think states are bad, as opposed to cops and prisons.

As for 99.9999+ percent, that's a rhetorical number, not a literal one. However, Gab's entire reason for being is to cater to a far right user base.

My assumption here is that "Libertarian" isn't just Libertarian Party members or the like, but ones who are comfortable with the far right ideologically, not just economically.

@JigmeDatse I still think that there's a small enough number of users, past which it doesn't matter as you said earlier, but perhaps as an admin, given the likely scope of the problem here, as has been pointed out repeatedly on here...maybe you should find out?

@LexYeen A soft disagree here, because I don't know how much California has worked to make sure they didn't drive out shops that were started by people of color, the industry has been taken over by corporate (frequently white) wealthy entrepreneurs, and so on

If that's the case, underground shops may be, well...something. :)

I'm feeling sort of worn out by this, tbh. Can we just agree to disagree here? I normally wouldn't say that for people who are arguing for what you're saying, but we know each other, and I just...it feels wrong-minded to be like "ok, I'm done", especially since I'm not sure you know much about Gab here, or how fascist recuitment tactics work

@JigmeDatse As well as being a huge opening for all sorts of people who have no interest in being deradicalized from the far right, and a lot of interest in doing things like reporting people to the INS, stalking them, etc.

@JigmeDatse Simply put: no, because that's not how their recruitment and indoctrination works, 99.9999999% of the time.

By the time someone's on there, it's too late, save for *maybe* someone who already knows someone in that position.

I feel like this line of reasoning is about the ways should ideally be (in terms of potentially reaching someone), than what their tactics are, which already account for that
