This was just a demo to highlight to prove it worked; I didn't have the part where it wasn't highlighted in the same file.

(IIRC, this or something very close to it was used in Anaconda with rsvg afterward, for smaller file size as well as HiDPI support after I proved it could work. But it works in browsers also…)

@ted @federicomena I remember making a map years ago where one could use the :target selector in CSS to highlight timezones.

Perhaps a technique like this might help in some cases?

Here's the command I used to count that (convert PDF to text, and count all lines with "@"):

$ pdftotext twitter_advertiser_list.pdf - | grep "@" | wc -l

1090

Getting to the points:

- I'm really glad Mastodon is a safe space from ad-infested garbage

- If you're also using birdsite, you can at least turn off the effect of targeted ads at twitter.com/personalization

- MiracleWhip is gross stuff, even if you're not allergic to it. (I wasn't always.) Use real mayo. Real mayo is, unfortunately, hard to find in the USA. (I've had my eyes opened by having actual mayo in Europe, and it's… actually not bad. Even on fries/pommes.)

The interesting part of the PDF is that while I'm only targeted by @MiracleWhip directly, there are "Similar audiences" that stretch through ⅔ of the first page until almost all of page 19 (last page).

Oh, and this phrase:

The other day, I was poking around in birdsite preferences and noticed I was included in 1 "tailored audience" for targeted advertising.

So I requested more info. They sent me an email with a PDF.

I'm targeted by @MiracleWhip, a crappy knockoff mayonnaise-wannabe.

(Ironically, it uses soybean oil as a main ingredient, so I'm literally allergic to the stuff. They can advertise as much as they want, but I'll never buy it.)

Mocking up GNOME stuff is probably still mostly done with paper or Inkscape, unless you're Jakub, and then it might be Blender or sketching UI in the air with a quadcopter ("drone"). 😉
