I fear my days using Firefox are numbered. I have to use some of these extensions to get a decent UI. I MUST use some other extensions to have a secure browser. I'm convinced the whole house of cards will collapse and catch fire in a few weeks.

"Firefox 57 is so fast we're calling it Quantum" ... yeah, but at what cost? https://mastodon.sdf.org/media/38z6pbaxCVxSzc5QR6o

Why not calling it “Wilber” (Wonderful Image Layers Builder, Editor, and Retoucher)? BTW, that's also the name of the mascot, which is nice /cc @abandonedwig

@fsf The phrase "Free as in Freedom" is more meaningful today than ever before. We often talk of users being "robbed" of their freedoms by non-free software, but many users aren't provided the opportunity to have something to be robbed of to begin with. Nearly everything users do is controlled and surveilled by corporations and governments as a feature, by default. Non-free software exposes and exfiltrates the most intimate aspects of our lives---it explores our thoughts, sits in our living rooms, and understands us better than we understand ourselves. Children are exposed to and taught to love and accept these software and devices before they can even crawl.

I've never felt more liberated by #freesoftware. But I've also never felt more concerned and sympathetic for users who are caught up in all of this. Most users don't even know that there are things to be concerned _of_, let alone where to even begin, despite the best intentions and predictions of many within our community.

And I've also never felt more compelled to do something about it.

@amnesty need to add here that they failed from the beginning to raise awareness about the importance of security in this field.

Instead if you click on the mooc the browsers asks you to share your location.

So looks like I will release Tusky 1.2.1 tomorrow. No new features, but loads of fixes.
There are still so many problems, small bugs and even crashes left, so I will probably do another bugfix release before starting to work on new features.

My local IT team and enterprise-level IT team are giving me completely opposite instructions, and both sides are insisting they are right. Local's instructions got me locked out of my computer for a while, so next time I'll try enterprise's instructions, but sheesh, they need to get their act together.

Dear every UI designer: You know those new, super-cool disappearing scroll bars that only magically appear when you hover the mouse over JUST THE RIGHT INVISIBLE SPOT? And vanish again if you're one pixel out? So you can never tell where you are in the scroll and, in fact, they completely don't fulfil their purpose for existence as a scroll indicator?

I know you love them but they're trash, sorry.

Why are we still teaching programming like it was a new emerging technology that nobody knows anything about, and not a well explored subject with at least 50 years of solid history?

Why are the lessons like an arts and crafts course, where we just let people build something, instead of a literature course, where we read and analyze classics, and learn from the experience of others?

And why are we surprised when we discover that every generation just reinvents the mistakes of the previous one?
