    @rtwx LMMS provides a lot in one package. Synthesizers, drum machines, and good sequencing and pattern editing utilities.

    If you use Jack, you have a lot of flexibility in routing and could terminate that in Ardour for sequencing/recording. But I think the Jack workflow takes a lot of management and has some bugs.

    Yes, you're right @matt, I guess my actual issue is when an application doesn't add a .desktop file, it's difficult to launch.

    I haven't installed Gnome Web as @poetgrant is attempting, so I'm not sure what its .desktop file status is, but I would imagine it provides one.

    Oh nevermind (just tried), Gnome Web has made its flatpak unavailable due to security issues.

    @poetgrant
    should be something like

    $ flatpak run org.gnome.Epiphany

    You can usually (sometimes, maybe) figure this out from the output of

    $ flatpak list

    But yeah, #flatpak really needs to smooth that process out. Snaps make it super simple.

    @wakest I know nothing about tarot, but that's the Rider-Waite deck, illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith in 1910. Public domain in USA since 1966.

    I happen to know this because I use tarot cards when game designing, and this was one of the public domain decks I use. :-P

    @freemo Great to know, thanks. The flat I live in right now is surrounded by trees and a hillside, and I don't really have the landlord's permission to string wire all over the property. I'm hoping to move soon to a better location, so I'll likely have more opportunity to customize my setup there.

    @freemo I made one of these! It's cool, but man is it hard to pick up a signal (much less hear it). Still, having a no-power radio is pretty neat.

    @cobra2 Pretty recently, yes.

    https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/12/06/microsoft-edge-making-the-web-better-through-more-open-source-collaboration/#IEYlahJFa4jZdbuf.97

    Brace yourself for the usual corporate blog structure: Reminder that Microsoft loves open source, and that actually they've loved open source ALL ALONG, assurance that Microsoft wants nothing more than to Improve Lives, and finally an invitation to all you wayward programmers to enter Microsoft's realm, blissfully and trustingly....

    I cobbled together a guide of sorts for setting up your own free #Gopher hole on https://sdf.org

    lynx gopher://sdf.org/1/users/spelk

    or

    gopher://sdf.org:70/users/spelk

    Look under the "Muse" section of my spelkhole, its in there.

    It should outline the basics of getting a user account, setting up a gopher space and building your first gophermap.

    Hopefully it will help people who are curious try out gophering, and some may support #SDF's public access #UNIX server going forward.

    My lightweight emacs alternative is jove or micro emacs. So much so that i alias vim to one of them. It's not that i hate vim so much as it is that vim hates dvorak, and that's my keyboard of choice.

    @amolith It's nothing like the book. Starts out following the text OK, but by series 2 it has diverged beyond recognition.

    @lilithsaintcrow @TheGibson I miss bookstores. They're like libraries where you pay all your overdue fines up front, and never have to bring the book back.

    Luckily I've always gotten a lot of mileage from used bookstores, and those still manage to exist.

    Still, I think a bookstore in every mall would encourage people to pick up a book every now and again. Seems like that's a good thing.
