    Lots of interesting discussion on ethics-based licenses. I think it's something we need to think about.

    Unfortunately I also think they're going to prove ineffective and harmful. Ethics-based licenses are great when the ethics map to your own ethics. But what happens when someone declares that their software can't be used by "people like you" (whatever that might be). Then you're trying to use a license to weaponize your beliefs in your software.

    Be careful out there.

    @ozoned a tip I read somewhere:

    For adolescents, they are only capable of reading at their grade level unless they prove otherwise. So a kindergartener or 1st grader should only read K or 1st grade books.

    However, if a grown-up reads to them, add about 2 or 3 years. So as a parent, you can read him books intended for 2nd or 3rd graders even if he is in Kindergarten.

    My son is old enough for me to read chapter books to him.

    I have to say, Captain Underpants is a fantastic series. Full of underwear jokes, potty rumor, and punny situations. Perfect reading material for little boys :)

    Also a fantastic sci fi series to boot!

    @s31bz there simply isn't a big enough demand for socketed CPUs in laptops anymore to justify even a niche marketplace for it.

    @rootwyrm @peter from the license: "The software may not be used by individuals, corporations, governments, or other groups for systems or activities that actively and knowingly endanger, harm, or otherwise threaten the physical, mental, economic, or general well-being of other individuals or groups."

    I would also argue that being legal and being harmless are mutually independent ideas.

    @peter that strikes me as a very "not free software" license. It definitely doesn't sit well with the Debian Social Contract and Debian Free Software Guidelines (No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor)

    Granted, I'm not opposed to this license. But I would be cautious in its adoption.

    @sean it's not about paying workers. It's about automating the menial tasks.

    The reduction in human workforce cost is a side effect, albeit one that many employers yearn for.

    @s31bz socketed CPUs (to be precise land grid arrays and pin grid arrays) are more expensive than ball grid arrays for OEMs. BGAs are also more reliable. Also BGAs are thinner.

    There is also virtually zero demand for socketed CPUs in laptops these days. The OEM has to specifically ask for one, and most won't bother.
