I really wish turning off boosts per user was an option now that Twitter style self-boosting is becoming a thing.

I think I've gotten pretty good at remembering to add alt text. I probably forget sometimes. If the main text is already about the image sometimes it feels redundant so my description might be sparse e.g. the post is about the piece of cake pictured so the alt text might just say "a slice of cake on a plate" or something.

Hehe this is an issue that's kind of close to the skin as a Swedish/English speaker on a German server. I find the linguistic diversity of Mastodon is one of its strengths. I can write "cat" in like five languages now!

Oh it will definitely cause drama if it geta noticed for exactly that reason. Remember the outrage over Tootdon doing search indexing?

Maybe there's room to organize consultation team or something. Maybe not even language mods, but like maybe just a list of users who would be willing to consult on cultural context/language in the event you get a report? (It *is* good you're thinking about how to handle other languages I just think banning them is the worst way of doing that :/)

Actually having read that, I think "admins don't want languages they can't read in their timelines" is dead on. You may have the best intentions wanting it that way, but you also say in that doc you're talking about an edge case which hasn't even happened so a enacting preemptive policy to deal with something that hasn't happened seems pretty inconsiderate of any non-anglophone users that were already on #Fosstodon

That's a little better than it sounded but it's still uncomfortable. There are definitely going to be colonial associations in restricting what language ppl can use socially when you consider how language, English especially, has been forced on minority linguistic groups.

And there's still the guy on public transportation who feels comfortable yelling "We speak ENGLISH here!" at immigrants talking to each other so... idk.

How would I graph my connections on Mastodon? I want to see if I'm part of a cluster. I get the feeling that I'm part of a cluster of people who all follow each other.
