@lnxw48a1 yeah, that's exactly what @pinkcathodecat said, too. not thrilled by HP's ink racket and giant software frameworks needed to support a mere printer. I really wish Brother would at least go full open source for their drivers, since their postscript, lpd, and other support works practically out of the box --an otherwise good fit for linux/bsd. -

@obrez most scopes end up in landfills. besides, you could get a junkier one, but it probably will need some actual work. this one sounds like it just needs a little TLC and minor calibration. if you didn't fork over a ton of shekels for it, it seems like a good match for you. -

@obrez why? that's a beautiful piece. -

@obrez no damage? no problem, then. at least you figured it out. -

@pinkcathodecat ah, it was a nice thought while it lasted. :-P -

@pinkcathodecat yeah. it comes with an odd extinction anxiety, today. I've not budged on chrome/chromium or any closed source browser on principle, but understand when one's hand is forced for some things.
at least seamonkey runs uBlock Origin, which is the most important addon I carried over from FF. not sure if it runs privacy badger, but it might. -

@pinkcathodecat never tried a samsung printer. will take a look at those when I'm up for a new printer.
>booting windows to scan

if you switched to libre software, and it's saved you a lot of money, please be sure to donate at least a token amount of what you've saved (if you can afford to) to the projects that enable you. -

@pinkcathodecat literally the only reason I run multilib on my desktop is compatibility with those damned 32-bit only blobs that Brother refuses to release the source for. otherwise, my b&w laser has been pretty great. -

while the rest of us two-legged 3DPD fiends build a hell for ourselves, the love of the ever smug cat endures. -

@pinkcathodecat on my system, the unpacked install of cwm is 110K (yes, K). and it's extremely stable. it's about as close as I've found in wm land to the notion of making something as simple as possible, but no simpler. I really like it.
unfortunately I have to run some real bloat for the web and email, too. I was an early firefox adopter, too, and am getting pretty disillusioned with their direction atm. (I use FF when I have to, but seamonkey and lynx in that order most of the time.) I think we may be in for a rough ride until this sorts itself out and we're left with viable community-driven contenders to the Big Browsers.
