the weather is now nearly suitable for my ushanka. #comfe

@eal @obrez and bad grounding for some modern appliances is literally in the "may burn house down" class of bad news, even if the fuses/breakers are doing their job.
-
"Place dinner within 30 cm of antenna atop TV set for 40 minutes. stir occasionally." https://gnusocial.de/attachment/4347633
-
@obrez the flies will probably arrive for the dinner sooner than you'll get a clear picture on those old tube TVs.
-
There are no "TV" parts inside this "TV" dinner.
-
but seriously? don't they call them "scare quotes" for a reason? ;-)
-
@obrez I think it's to make clear to the burgers that there's no actual TV parts inside.
-
@obrez I still don't own a mw. don't miss them. although having two literally blow up on me because of bad house wiring also set me on edge about what passes for electrical codes in some countries.

@obrez >A Genuine "TV" Brand Dinner
wtf does that even mean? :-)
-
@obrez certainly other approaches tend to be less efficient, you're right. I guess I'm averse to owning a high-power tabletop radio transmitter to voluntarily ruin my food with. stoves are at least much more versatile.
-
@seaw I'll raise a glass to that!
as for the camera, only because I found it distracting. I wanted to try to be in the moment, and not thinking about getting a good picture instead of watching the bird or enjoying the scene. it's also more equipment to carry in and out of the field and keep maintained, stuff to spend money on (camera stuff, as you know, can be stupid expensive), etc etc.
-
@hj I've not owned a microwave in nearly 17 years. I only find them at work or when visiting people's homes. most aren't as staid as yours.

@obrez >TV dinners or any "made for microwave" meals
https://gnusocial.de/attachment/4309116
-
This is like lighting a cigarette with a flame thrower ...
-
1200 watts of power to heat up a mug of lukewarm #cofe ...
-
Typical quick function layout of modern microwaves, I reckon:
>Popcorn
>Pot Roast
>Oatmeal
>Sludge
>Coffee (Non-sludge)
>Pizza
>Very Old Pizza
>Dog Food
> ...
-
@xj9 old Sharps from the early 1990s weren't terrible iir -- but today? wow. the degeneracy is real when you have a "quick cook" button assigned for each kind of meat and vegetable in your freezer.
-
microwaves ruin food. that's indeed their primary purpose. any modern marvel of engineering that encourages "quick" food over "good" food to such an extreme degree with nutrition a tertiary consideration is no good. don't succumb to the american way.
-
@cybermeow that stinks. it probably is. have any plans in the works?
-
@obrez you know what's going to happen, right? one person's dinner is going to be turned into a shrivelled, smoking mess while the other dinners remain frozen enough to hammer a nail. (every time ...)
