@seaw I'm still coming to terms with my camera, and actually refused to have one for a long time. but occ I'm able to collect a few small souvenirs from the field that I can just randomly put out into the public domain. in any case, thank you for the kind words! it doesn't really matter if one is knowledgeable about birds or not imho. it's totally fine if people even take a moment in their day just to observer nature wherever they happen to be. dead facts fall very short of the living creature.

@bsmall2 @shpuld @rye thanks for this. I enjoy these paintings very much. there's also something very intimate about them, too imo -- the painter doesn't draw in such a detached way to suggest that the scene is really apart from him and his experience, something I always found thoroughly off-putting in a lot of other work.
-
@bsmall2 I consider that a last resort only for legacy hardware running code that can only be worked on by people now unquestionably senile in assisting living.
joking aside: imho, the trend over the past few decades with most "complex" computing problem domains is that very large, ugly problems aren't seen as the myriad of small, more easily understood problems in aggregate that they are. the fact that a problem space is a "gordian knot" is almost always a sign the problem isn't sufficiently understood yet, and the solutions reflect that in the end.

@seaw if watching birds of prey for a career is the price to be paid for hosting such an interdimensional parasite, I'm okay with this. Many others not so possessed seem to be having less fun than I am. https://gnusocial.de/attachment/4347452 https://gnusocial.de/attachment/4135442

@shpuld @rye so what you're saying is by not taming the unruly oxe, I've found Zen without realising it. https://gnusocial.de/attachment/4347442

@shpuld @rye even slacking requires a disciplined hand.

@seaw There's that person in the mirror in each morning I'm ultimately accountable to. So the work has to feel worthwhile, even if I can't put into words how or why it feels that way.
-
@seaw birds, outside, yes. looking at clouds happens as I'm looking for the birds. ;-)
-
@seaw nada on my side except work. thankfully work is good (even if I don't like my employer).
-
@karen use that "awful" to ace them on the second round. ;-)
-
@seaw a bit tired, but no complaints. and you?

I think I'm pretty much done tilting at windmills. I should go back to counting raptors in developing nations, and maybe consider selling weapons to guerilla factions in the off-season to support myself.

@obrez >crap sugar water
absolutely no --I would insist on the genuine article.

I've been accused of photoshopping that image. but that's beyond my present capabilities ...
