its power is to make people believe it's a user-freeing operating system, when it's no more than a proprietary--blob-carrying kernel originally made to work underneath GNU

Really, I as a user should decide what server I want to trust - not you as a software vendor.

if you had that time, you could use it to get everything you need, and still be better off than in the current system. that's the essence of what you and I are for, if you think of it in a less superficial way.

cultural works are natural monopolies. whatever a person or a community wishes to buy, there's only one seller (individual or collective) at first: that who authored the work. whether it's first sold to a monopoly-collector or not, eventually it ends up in a situation in which this monopolist goes to market. their strategy of dividing us and forcing us each to buy one or more copies for ourselves, demanding us to deprive others until they buy it too, has been reasonably successful at profiteering and reshaping public opinion WRT sharing.
but what enables this is that it is a (natural) monopoly. being natural, it can't be ruled out of existence. so the only way to make it a level playing field is to pit it against a monopsony. whether it's government or private organizations that band people together who commit to not buying individually from such monopolies, only buying collectively through these psony (buyer) organizations, the more negotiating power they'll have. just like unions. if the monopolists formed their MAFIAAs, we must form our own collective forces to defend our interests

I bet people making the decisions are not using the system, and never find themselves stuck without battery, or having had their portable telescreens stolen. they only see how the collected data can be monetized and how surveillance capitalism is normalizing it, not how collected data is toxic like nuclear waste

I was talking about our moral duties as human beings. it's too easy for anyone to fall in a trap of us vs them, but we humans have more in common than the horrible figures that ascend to power all over, and we should respect and defend each other instead of falling for the artificial divides that are used to manipulate us. this is not AT ALL about elections, this is about being human, humane, and capable of empathy towards other humans. this is not AT ALL about being antisemitic (indeed, it's semites who are being massacred). this IS about NOT conflating peoples with the figures of power that govern them. it's not ok to condemn israelis or usians for their horrible figures of power any more than it is ok to condemn gazans for their horrible figures of power. BUT I find it's not cool for us to wash our hands while fellow innocent human beings are being murdered in gaza, in the west bank, in lebanon, in israel, and elsewhere. our silence enables the figures of power's narratives and propaganda to shift public opinion and make their violence seem tolerable, necessary or even desirable. so those of who have a heart and a bit of humanity MUST speak up, wherever we are, whatever our other allegiances are, to stop the violence. we have learned from history books, particularly those on WWII, the horrible horrible consequences of humane people's holding their peace and washing their hands, and I hope we don't go down the same path ever again

what I'm talking about is society's organizing into a monopsony to face the monopolies that exploit culture at even powers. it's like unions, but for buying culture.
the monopolies currently count on dividing people and turning them in adversaries in competition for artificially scarce goods. it's a farce.
if we see through it and form a social syndicate to negotiate purchases for all of society, wherein the monopolies wouldn't have anyone else to sell to, how fast do you imagine they'd give in to our conditions, whatever illusions you and they might hold about displaced imaginary purchases?

sometimes the pushers are not accidentally creating the problem that the criticism calls out. they're specifically, intentionally doing so. it's not like the criticism teaches or even reminds them of what they set out to do in the first place :-(
