@TerryLee59 Agreed, many of these orders might have been pushed by the government. But otherwise all these orders would have gone to Airbus / Boeing. It's not like they're ordering planes they otherwise wouldn't have. They're nationalistic here, sure. But they're not insane.

They're still ordering thousands of Airbus / Boeing planes, but if the C919 turns out to be actually competitive, you can expect a *real* shift in China.

And Western airplane manufacturers continue to claim China is no competition at all.

The C919 is intended to compete with the A320(neo) and B737(max), both priced at around $100M a piece.

Currently Boeing and Airbus pretty much split the difference in sales for these types of planes, so they're both missing out on $40B in orders already. Not exactly pocket change, even for them!

Regarding all the news articles claiming those UCLA boys could have gone to prison for 10 years: fake news.

Actually living in China, I have some knowledge of the Chinese criminal code. Petty theft would result in an administrative punishment (by the police, not the court) of a fine and up to 15 days detention (police detention, not prison). And for foreigners, likely expulsion, depending on their visa.

But by all means, continue your China bashing!
