Similarly, in the original Sam&Max, Max works as a kind of hint system and will (sometimes) give you guidance on what you'll want to do next or even veiled clues for puzzles if you talk to him.

Slightly bizarrely this is kind of a thing that Metroid Other M does well! Whenever you hit a loading screen, it shows you a bit of text summarising recent events in the story and concluding with a bit of info on what your next general goal is and where you'll need to go for it.

@SilviaFox I would get endlessly grumpy about people hating on RS3 stuff just because a lot of the design overhaul makes the game legitimately better because Classic and even RS2 is A Bit Shit on many many levels, honestly
