@gameragodzilla I'm a big believer that people do tend to step up, though. When you look at natural disasters there's a lot of good stories. I agree generally people were *way* tougher a few decades ago, especially most of the WW2 generation in the US that had gone through the depression.

@maiyannah @gameragodzilla I think there's some expectation of it from the players - because they're lazy - and it gives the developers an easy way to differentiate classes and, in their eyes, therefore gameplay. Often the result is something that feels like a contemporary shooter in period dress.

@maiyannah Wow. I had slightly later one  (I think it was a '99 model) I used as my couch computer about ten years ago. Those things were so incredibly sturdy.

@gameragodzilla @maiyannah That kind of pandering is always annoying. Tripwire - of all people -  even did a bit of this (MKB42s for all in '42, daft progression system) in RO2 when they were tarting up the COD market. They ended up with the fans of the series getting pissed off, and it still being way too hardcore for the casuals.

@gameragodzilla COD 2 felt like the first really 'epic' entry to the series; with those big set piece battles.

@gameragodzilla Right! I think Infinitry Ward really hit the zenith of that with the First COD; it was almost perfect if at the cost of losing the Indiana Jones vibe parts of MOHAA had.

    They are genuinely good-natured fun.

Strange weather in a couple of places, so of course the nutters of both wings of the climate opinionsphere have a field day.

@gameragodzilla I bought the Warchest on sale at GoG a while back, I am thinking of getting Pacific Assault too. Played MOHAA back in the day and really enjoyed it. These games are also a snapshot of time just before Infinity Ward sent the genre into space (literally lol) and they're special for it.

There's an entire section of Half Life 2 that feels very similar to the early chase scene in the film. The waterways and sunken dirty streets, in among the high-rises.

Embarrassed to admit it, but finally watched the original Ghost in the Shell. Vizual jizz. Amazed how influential it is. Noticed the urban art direction has appeared in a lot of games.
