Hi, You probably don't know much about me apart from a few of my toots and boosts. I'd like to be a data point relevant to whatever pet theory you are currently having about the social structure of Mastodon.

Being an open-source maintainer is really hard. A lot of people tend to act very entitled towards you, as if you "owe" them your time or your attention.

It's totally illogical: you put something out there for free, and now because of that, folks feel like they deserve more of it! And yet this is often the prevailing mood in OSS communities.

At the same time, you may start to believe this logic yourself, leading to "open-source guilt." This often ends in burnout.

#Ireland has very regressive #abortion law. There's been a pretty good & active campaign for the ~5 years to change that.

Yesterday the leader of one of the main right wing parties said he favors repeal (ie pro-choice). He's following the votes & public opinion. But still.

5 years ago I didn't think would be possible. It's amazing how much #Irish society seems to have changed. It gives one #hope that things might just get better. We might just win.
