The film is basically a lyrical view of cats and their humans, so it doesn’t explicitly address Turkish politics, but around the edges a couple of things attracted my attention:

• Humans say the forced redevelopment of Istanbul is making it harder for cats and cat lovers; maybe the filmmakers are subtooting Erdogan?

• You never see a cat lover who’s obviously a conservative Muslim, which seemed odd to me in view of Muhammad’s love of cats.

Anyone who loves cats should see _Kedi_, a documentary on the cats of Istanbul and the people who foster them. It looks as if Istanbul is a better place to be a cat than any city I know.

For me, the best sequences of the film are those taken from the point of view of cats themselves as they ramble around their daily circuits.

If you’re in the USA, you can probably see _Kedi_ at home gratis using kanopy.com and your public library membership.

As you would think, Doughboy Park in Woodside, Queens is dedicated to the fallen of WWI.

Like lots of NYC parks, it now has a 9/11 memorial.

The last time it was painted, it got a color scheme reminiscent of South Asia or Mexico, either of which would suit the neighborhood.
