It's a bit like that Prague I remember and where I always wanted to live is slowly disappearing anyway. It's not a bad thing, it was a shitty place, but it was a place I dreamed about.
@agaric Well, kinda. I just like private ownership. Owning stuff is fun. So are equal opportunities, welfare state and stuff like that. It's not super consistent. But one can dream.
@vfrmedia@anymouse_404 This is completely legal stuff, lol. It was a staple in local teahouses (which were really specific thing I guess, but hey). I'm not really sure how it ended up with the smoking ban. I wonder.
@vfrmedia@anymouse_404 I haven't seen anyone putting just tobacco there, it's soaked in molasses and usually some flavor addition. Which makes it at least superficially similar to vaping, it's got strong taste, not of tobacco.
@lain I mean, it probably doesn't make much sense because US got quite a high home-ownership rate, nation-wide averages in such a big country are probably not very important, federal minimum wage is just a baseline for local regulation, etc. Like, yeah, it's a poor way to propagate the message (that I also have no problem agreeing with, in a sense).
@lain When I combine it with a mean household income, looks like quite a lot of people in the US can afford at least an average apartment.
(Now, it's a different thing from an individual income, but far more representative, you don't get to pay two rents if you live with a partner. That's another bad hole in the picture.)
