this talk by @mako last year on how the tools of free software have been co-opted in order to create freedom for companies instead of freedom for humans did a great job of bringing together a bunch of threads I've been following recently as well as pointing out new insights and ways forward.
highly recommended if you care about ways in which software can help people and are concerned about our work being subverted.
Ground pork, garlic, shallots, fish sauce, oyster sauce, "rat shit chilis", green beans, and basil. You're supposed to use tulsi/holy basil but I used Taiwanese basil instead in the stir fry and put Italian sweet basil on top after.
waiting for Sigil to drop at the end of the week I've played thru a couple of Romero's 2016 Doom maps he made as replacements for certain episode 1 levels
the map 8 replacement in particular is a really big improvement; lots of neat techniques I hadn't seen done before but all using the same engine and textures.
@endomain yeah. the most amazing thing about LIKO-12 is that it seems to be mostly the product of just one Syrian teenager. when I talked to him he would frequently go offline because the war had knocked out power in his city; he built it because he wanted something that he could develop using his tablet which had better battery life than his laptop.
unfortunately being able to run the games in the browser is just too big of a draw for me so I stopped using it, but it's impressive.
@mpenet it is about 2mm wider to accommodate the two new keys, but it is also around 10mm shorter overall, less internal empty space. other than the middle keys, the rest of the keys remain in the same position relative to the others of that hand.
@kaniini the only feature I'm actually interested in is the ability to migrate accounts to a new server seamlessly, but I don't think I'd be willing to throw away the network I've built up over the past few years to get it
@dankwraith my main complaint about the Racket draw system is that it uses "corner of the bounding box" as a way to place an *ellipse* which is kinda bananas. makes perfect sense for rectangles tho imo.
@endomain the only technical advantage of PICO-8 is the ability to set flags on sprites (for collidable, etc) arbitrary logic stuff. that is pretty nice. there's also the "ecosystem" advantage of just having a much larger user base; TIC-80 is more obscure and you won't find as many tutorials and stuff.
