@silmathoron @cwebber Fair point. My feeling is that features that encourage breadth detract from depth, but if there's a path to get it working both ways, then yeah choice is a good thing. It probably is more doable in the Fediverse, because we can control much more how our client operates but still be part of the same network.

@Flophouse_Sam Zettlr might be worth a peek (https://www.zettlr.com/)

I like LyX's WYSIWYM (what you see is what you mean) approach, so you're not faffing around too much thinking about formatting.

I use emacs for writing (as well as coding), but probably wouldn't recommend it off the bat. It took a wee bit of config to get it to be a nice word processing experience for me. But I do love it, so I persevered.

Kind of sad LibreOffice doesn't seem to have a dark mode.

@clayton Cool, my friend Janet was there from The Restart Project, dunno how big it is but you might have bumped into each other! There's a chance I might make it next hear.

Thanks for sharing the wiki page, I love Greg's work on OpenReferral.

@ntnsndr Can't speak to the quality of any of them, but very pleaesd to see this from System76

    https://github.com/system76/docs/tree/gh-pages/service-manuals/pdfs

Step by step instructions on how to replace parts in each one, that's good. Plenty of stuff seems user replaceable (not screens though it looks like).

Another important thing to check though is how readily available spare parts are.

    @ckohtala @nicksellen

But definitely saw the blockchain overhype result in plenty anti-hype, maybe not all legit. If distributed ledgers w/o the bullshit can genuinely help solidarity economics function, then it should be explored for sure.

I guess the question is do you need distributed ledgers at all for any of this? That's where I don't know enough. But I like that this is based on genuine working example of Guerrilla Translation coop, and the people involved seem like good people.

I'm pretty clueless with regards to the workings of distributed ledgers (or coop governance for that matter!) so can't speak to the innards of its functioning here or why it's needed.

but this resonates from what @ckohtala picked out

"DisCOs ... are our way of rescuing the baby from the DAO bathwater."

"prioritizing *mutual support*, *cooperativism* and *care work among people*"

    DisCOs looks really interesting:

'DisCOs are a P2P/Commons, cooperative and Feminist Economic alternative to Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (or DAOs).'

    https://disco.coop

'...a set of organisational tools and practices for groups of people who want to work together in a cooperative, commons-oriented, and feminist economic form.'

Anyone have any connections with fansub or any translation communities?

Me and my friend want to start a #platformcoop to help people do and fund translations of all sorts, especially subtitles.

Anyone interested in participating in any way let me know.

Below is an article outlaying the idea of the #coop:

Good to see any attempt at social not based on ads.

    However

'"Obviously the ambition is not 50,000 or 500,000 but 50m and 500m," Wales stated.'

That and it being centralised makes it a bit of a non-starter for me.

Interested to see if they do any work around interoperability though.
