I like speculative future scenario planning, as a way of outlining possible alternatives and encouraging agency towards which one we actual want. Peter Frase's Four Futures is a great book on this, from a general socio-economic view. So I like the idea of doing this from a technological perspective. Cooperatives and mutuals appear in the "Exodus Economy" future, in response to an economic slowdown. (I wouldn't want the assumption to be that this is the only way they will appear, but I guess
@pperrin How is it anti-democratic? Democracy means regular consultation of the people. We're constantly re-voting on things. We have a general election every 4/5 years. Is that a rejection of democracy? Nah, it's seeing if the populace's opinion has changed based on new evidence, new context. It's democracy. So yeah, I'll keep asking for it to be reconsidered. I'd expect people who voted leave to act exactly the same way.
It was a big ol' march. The first protest I went to was the Stop the War march in 2003 and it was similarly large. That one, all the ones in between, and probably this one, have been pretty much completely ignored. I think it is true that only direct action brings meaningful change. But movement building is helpful. (Also.. my preference would be to revoke article 50.)

Good discussion about some ideas for a socialist economics for the 21st century. Lots of stuff in there, including some positive mentions of decentralised manufacturing and energy, and cooperatives.
I'm going through the 'Build A Laravel App With TDD' series on Laracasts. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's fun to code along in little step-by-step videos like this. It's somewhere between reading a tutorial, doing a kata, and pair programming. Picking up lots of little tips about the framework, and tweaking my tools setup to keep up with the video with as little pausing as possible.
@nicksellen@gemlog Interesting, in the last few years The Guardian moved to its 'paid for by readers rather than by advertising' model, didn't it? On the face of it that seems like it would have been a positive.
But then The Guardian has felt for a long time like, the paper for people who were radical when young, now with families, stable jobs, and skiing holidays in the Alps.
