@nicksellen Idle reading as in daily news on current affairs? Don't know of a good alternative for exactly that. Interested to see how the English version of The Correspondent turns out. I kind of skim the Guardian online for a rough idea of what's going on each day, take it with a pinch of salt, ignore opinions pieces, check in on Novara Media occassionally.

For general, less current, idle reading I just have a feed reader of various lefty blogs that I like.

Just slowly realising that you could use org-babel very much like you would an interactive notebook like Jupyter. Not tried it yet.. but that could be really useful.

I just remembered that at the recent platform coops talk, Terry Tyldesley mentioned that Resonate is investigating decentralisation. There wasn't time for much more info than that.. but the basic gist was that they don't want to be a centralised platform. That's very cool to hear.

@mattcropp Here's a link to the report that the session was discussing: https://www.uk.coop/resources/platform-co-operatives-solving-capital-conundrum

Not sure if it was recorded - I'll share it if they send any video links out.

Popped along to a talk yesterday on platform coops organised by Nesta and Cooperatives UK. Specifically discussing the capital conundrum as they call it. They've just put a report on it. Totally honestly, I still don't understand like 90% of how coops work. I haven't invested the time. But felt big love towards everyone who cares and is trying hard to make them happen.

Trying to get Tidal Cycles running through spacemacs. Almost there I think, but SuperCollider is having a permission denied about something. Might be time to try on IRC…

I've had a bit of a social media hiatus. Not planned - it just kind of happens now and again. I feel out of the loop with what's happening at the world's bleeding edge. And, that's totally fine. But I do miss my interesting indieweb and fediverse peeps!

@maloki I think 'fediverse' itself is not that accessible. If you don't know or care about federation, it's an odd name. I have had people react in bemusement to 'fed', as a prefix or suffix. I suggested pixelfed as an instagram alternative, and their first word association to it was the feds, the FBI - no joke.

That said, I think it's familiarity. Tweet is a ridiculous term, but you hear it on the news in relation to geopolitics now, and nobody bats an eyelid.

Just finished The Player of Games (Iain M Banks) - also really enjoyable.  Less cinematic than Consider Phlebas (though still nicely paced), and a bit more to chew on philosophically.  The contrast of the hierarchical Azadian empire and the egalitarian Culture is interesting.  Gurgeh, the main character, from the Culture, finds some appeal in the way things work in Azad.  Azad feels like a caricature of Western society as it is today - superficially advanced and urbane, but with some re

Did a djembe drumming class yesterday - holy moly it was fun.  We did five songs.  Such rhythm.  So drum.  I used to play a kit and this is a lot simpler, but it's way more fun when there's twenty of you doing it together.

Really enjoyed Consider Phlebas (Iain M. Banks).  It was a rip-roaring read.  Very visual and cinematic, I can still conjure up a picture of a lot of the scenes in my head.  Enjoyed the brief intro it gives to the Culture, too - the post-scarcity socialist society that are featured in a lot more books in the Culture series.  Interested to see how that's explored further.  I've just started reading the next in the series, The Player of Games.

After this I think I'll try some Kim Stan

@jrss I just use C-c C-x c (org-clone-subtree-with-time-shift) to create enough time-shifted headings for a semester (which I have to calculate by myself) and then delete the ones I know I won't use.

This time I then deleted all the separate headings and just pasted all the timestamps under one heading, to keep it more compact.
