What do we mean by decentralised git remotes? Might be missing something, but in my mind it's not setting up git remotes that's an issue, more the easy forking, pull requests, discussion on issues, that kind of thing, right? git remotes can already be decentralised, kind of the raison d'etre of a DVCS, I can set one up on any server. But github has locked people in with their 'value adds' and network effort, classic anti-disintermediation.

The First Things First manifesto from 1964. Graphic designers advocating for a use of their trade that has more benefit to the social good.

"In common with an increasing number of the general public, we have reached a saturation point at which the high pitched scream of consumer selling is no more than sheer noise."

Just to repeat, that's *over 50 years ago*. It sure as hell hasn't gotten any better.

@caribou I thoroughly enjoyed Inventing the Future a couple of years back. Good analysis of how neoliberalism became so entrenched, and the failings of the left to do anything about it. https://www.versobooks.com/books/2315-inventing-the-future

Not read all of it yet (I have a terrible habit of not finishing books...) but the first few chapters of Radical Technologies are good, cautionary against a Silicon Valley consensus. https://www.versobooks.com/books/2453-radical-technologies

    What's a blockchain?

It's a thing for people who don't have the faintest idea what it is to talk about, helping disinformation, and obscurantism.

Data structures and computer science concepts don't destroy the environment. Imagine if you developed irrational reactions for other data structures, like a vector or a matrix.

Maybe you want Bitcoin miners to stop consuming energy that has been produced and planned for in China.

If you want that, say that, stop being so offensively ignorant.

@caribou Brilliant isn't it! I always go whenever I'm near Manchester. They had a really great exhibition of Paul Peter Piech last year which was amazing. That Spinningfields area seems to be getting a bit full of bank offices and chain fast food stores, but PHM is a real diamond in the rough.

@fabianhjr Precarious housing and work are crap, but I hope they are replaced by less work/more leisure and fluid social housing stock, not careers and home ownership. Though both do potentially provide some community, it's community itself that is the important thing. Perhaps there is opportunity for exploring new forms of belonging - online and global via the Internet, but also easily accessible physically by anyone even transient to a place. (Something religion has done well.)

@h I was thinking command completion. (I guess its utility depends on the number of available commands that you need to remember, but in emacs it's invaluable!)
