I am genuinely happy to have learned about the trick where, if you paste a user's URL or a Toot's permalink into your home-instance's "Search" box, it comes up in your home instance window. This lets you more easily remote follow, or retoot, or favourite stuff that you found in another tab on another server. :)

https://help.github.com/articles/about-automation-for-issues-and-pull-requests-with-query-parameters/
Use-case: Automatically generate "report this bug!" URLs for users when a program crashes! Github has a feature that would support this, but I could not in good conscience develop something that only supported a proprietary platform.
#git #dev -

BTW: help me out here, because I'd like to know how to describe the issue of sex-variable medical conditions in a way that's inclusive of trans people without being ambiguous? :)
So, EDS varies a lot between the sexes, and the differences probably involve developmental / musculo-skeletal factors as well as hormonal ones. I doubt it's known or studied, but I'd expect issues where e.g. transmen are more likely than cismen to experience strong symptoms. -

Without being able to directly answer that question: the encryption is byzantine trash, and they've never properly explained why they designed such a bizarre cryptosystem. Every time actual cryptographers ask (and several have), they just accuse them of being NSA stooges and defame them on twitter. According to the few attacks people have bothered to publish, Telegram have access to material that could let them break or spoof keys. -

* I don't use CWs much, sorry. You can rely on me to CW traumatic subjects, but not 'politics' or 'selfies'. -
Cathal Garvey (cathal@social.coop)'s status on Monday, 02-Apr-2018 15:41:21 EDT Cathal Garvey The whole witches-town debacle ought to be a lesson in the social dynamics of the fediverse - you can't let a community of hundreds or thousands rely on the largesse of a single individual. If they control the domain, server, database... They can withdraw access to those things at any time. Approaches like social.coop are potentially more sustainable, provided as ever that they don't rely on any single people, especially for the domain.

Cathal Garvey (cathal@social.coop)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2018 05:46:03 EDT Cathal Garvey @Gargron This is awesome, and I'll be sharing it widely. But, I also think now is the time to start talking about how we stop the likes of #CambridgeAnalytica / #Palantir from abusing the Fediverse's model, too. I work for scrapinghub.com - I can see how easy it would be to map and monitor the entire fediverse right now. From there to hyper-targeted fake profiles is a small enough step. How do we harden ourselves against #Twitter / #Facebook-style manipulation without damaging the social fabric?

Next time you see someone complaining that our culture isn't creating any lasting wonders-of-the-world, send them here. http://longnow.org/clock/ - The wonders are being built. Not by our awful bezos-pharoes with slave-armies, but by musicians, engineers, and other dreamers.
