    Another thing is that the CPU is based on the 12-core part with two cores disabled. I wonder if they can be unlocked. In any case I’ll be tuning it for better power efficiency so the fans don’t annoy me.

    In short, each DIMM is a channel. Octuple channel memory. There’s space for a low profile GPU too. Gaming would probably suck ass though.

    The POWER8 server’s CPU is actually two chips, meaning two memory controllers. Each controller has two ‘Memory Buffer’ chips which can access 8 RAM modules each, allowing for a maximum of 512GB over 32 slots. Peak bandwidth of 409GB/s.

    I’m planning on getting 8x2GB so I can max out one of those Memory Buffer chips. I’ll be making space while it’s in transit.
