@aral seems that you misunderstood me. I don't talk about cultural differences regarding the Free Software definition. There is no difference between FSF and FSFE. I talk about cultural differences how to approach people, politicians etc. That's why the FSF started the network. Because they noticed that their campaigns often resonated great in the US but not so good outside. So we can campaign in Europe for the same with a more "European style", same for FSF India and FSF LA.
@aral Regarding "FSFE vs FSF". We are sister organisations, see https://fsfe.org/about/fsfnetwork.html We are completely independent personally and financially. We share the same values and goal. But we approach the issues of software freedom sometimes differently in style because of the cultural differences.
@aral Let's assume for a second that the rebranding effort "Open Source" would not have happened. Would the Software we have today be different (Linux, GNU, Apache, KDE, GNOME,...)? no. Would the licenses be different (GPL, BSD, MIT,..)? no. Would Google, Facebook & Co exists and use the software? yes.
@aral I think that's one of the common rumors. That Free Software is about Copyleft and Open Source is about non-Copyleft. But if you look at the license lists of FSF and OSI, you will see that this is not true. And many people who talk about Open Source use copyleft licenses. On the other hand you will find people talking about Free Software but prefer non-Copyleft licenses. I describe this in great detail in the article I linked to earlier.
@aral To make this clear, I say Free Software = Open Source if we talk about the actual software, licenses, etc. If you look at it from a linguistic point of view they highlight complete different aspects and values. That's why I speak about Free Software because I deeply care about software freedom.
@aral Yes, that's why it is on our homepage. I don't thing RMS will disagree that it is about the same software. They use the same licenses. Also on larger projects you will find members talking about "Free Software" and members talking about "Open Source". So how can it be different software? Also if you look for example at @webmink he speaks about Open Source but is quite vocal on software freedom. So also the old argument about different communities or business vs society are no longer true.

@aral Would be nice if it would come with a config option to automatically add a sign-off statement at the end so that I will never forget '-s' in the future.
@kensanata Don't have a strong opinion here. Just saw that the current list already contain groups like the CCC, KDE, Emacs,.. so I thought a Nextcloud and FSFE group would fit as well. I also tend to think that it is more useful if you use public available information to populate the lists instead of relaying on the individuals to take action.
@kensanata How about a @fsfe and @nextcloud list? I could also Name some people for the lists if this is OK? Or do you only want to add people who explicitly asked for it?
