I just installed #Ubuntu Server in a VM and was really surprised that it offers you directly during installation to install some services... The second option is already #Nextcloud 🙂
Happy #ilovefs day everyone! There is way to many #FreeSoftware I rely on every day to single out one particular project. Thanks everyone who makes this possible: coder, writer, artist, designer, translator, advocates...
In the long run, the Parliament seeks the use, promotion and migration to Free Software and #OpenStandards throughout all public administration's processes.
@selea@clacke Works fine here, I follow this account here from my Nextcloud and receive every post I send from mastodon.social. Maybe you can check your log files and/or js console and create a bug report https://github.com/nextcloud/social
@ao how did you installed it? Flatpak? Another issue I had, I couldn't find a dial pad while being in a call, which is crucial to enter conference pins, etc. Does this works for you?
@m_schultheiss Can I really use it as a SIP client? Can't find anything on their webpage, looks more like they are doing their own protocol these days.
What's the best #SIP app on #Linux these days, preferable #Gnome/#Gtk but not a hard requirement? Tried #Linphone but while it works quite well on Android it is really buggy on my GNU system and crashes a lot.
@jamie Further some privacy advocates argue that this tight control is an advantage because Apple can make sure that no malicious software enters the store. But this news and other in the past show, that they can't or don't want to. On the other hand open and transparent app stores with Free Software, which everyone can inspect, seems to do a much better job in protecting our privacy. - 2/2
@jamie most likely not but Apple has some properties which makes it especially critical. Nobody restricts the walled garden as much as Apple. No alternative app store is allowed, no way to install a app directly and no way to install a different operating system. So you have to use what Apple offers you through their app store. They are also quite hostile to Free Software through their app store rules, which makes it (arguable) impossible to distribute GPL software - 1/2
"Every tap, button push and keyboard entry is recorded — effectively screenshotted — and sent back to the app developers", including credit card numbers, passwords, etc. When will people stop pretending that the #Apple system of a proprietary walled garden lead to more #security and #privacy? https://techcrunch.com/2019/02/06/iphone-session-replay-screenshots
@cwebber At this point you should have asked them how they know what's in your access logs: "Lots of people read your blog. Take a look at your access logs." 😁
@61 ... and you wouldn't say to astrophysicists: "Don't insist on your stupid definition of stars, it doesn't make sense to define something in your special field, people will always come up with their own definition." Just because of some trolls or people who want to exploit it by purpose, right?
@61 It is the nature of language that almost everything has at least two meanings. But there is always context which gives stuff a distinct meaning. You have this in all specials fields. You also wouldn't argue with a astrophysicist that all the stars he talks about are not astronomical object but your favorite actors and musicians. While on a naive level you would be right, it makes absolutely no sense to insist on it in the special context unless you want to trick people....
@61 It is not about "degrees of openess" it is about that there is a well defined term Open Source for more then 20 years in the IT industry. Wordplay is typically only done to trick people and to use the good reputation of Open Source to sell something which is not Open Source.
"There is no trust in a world where anyone can invent their own definition for #OpenSource, and without trust there is no community, no collaboration, and no innovation." So true, way to many companies tries to trick you today by pretending, that Open Source just mean that you can see the source code. That's neither Open Source, nor #FreeSoftware, don't get fooled! https://opensource.org/node/966
