@publicdomainbooks fun fact: early corys looked exactly the same as contemporary corys.

Hey folks! You may have seen this already, but I've fixed the link, and I'd still like some help/feedback on the thing.
I'm (still) building an open source platform for hosting web comics. I want it to be safe and usable by as many folks as possible, out of the box. But before I get too far into a rabbit hole of difficult-to-change design, I want to ensure I consider all the options users would actually appreciate in a community platform like this will be.
Thoughts?

I performed this a while back as part of a holiday show. It seems to become more relevant with each passing year.

No one, when they sincerely ask you to check your privilege, wants you to feel bad. Some people asking you to check your privilege may not care how you feel one way or another, but no one really wants you to wallow in guilt and shame. Instead, they want you to begin the difficult work of disentangling your image of yourself, what you're invested in, from structures that are actively harming others.

Well, that's it! I successfully spent 2019 reading and blogging about each of the first 365 RFCs.
I have more posts to come, including some related research that didn't quite fit with the RFC-a-day format, and an interview with the brilliant outgoing RFC series editor, Heather Flanagan.

I totally had this sitting for like half a month before realizing I had to announce it, sorry!
I still need to make the images expand on click, but I'm gonna do that.

This is a friendly reminder that when two people on the fediverse have a disagreement, you don't *have* to express your opinion about it in their mentions, use the opportunity to make a loosely-related political point, or join a spiralling public drama about it.
It can be hard to break the habits we formed on platforms where techbros have monetised our negative emotions, divisions, and innate desire to belong. But your activist energy can be better directed, and your mental health will benefit.

@rixx well done! I think reading also ticks all those boxes for me, but I feel that nowadays people find it hard to _justify_ reading. Somehow. You make me want to read more!

@rixx how on earth do you read 185 books in a year. I’m proud when I read 4. 😭

I fed the following seed to the Transformer neural network text generator:
“My house is not built of bricks. Instead, “
What came out is actually very beautiful:
“My house is not built of bricks. Instead, it's built of family stories, a magic of lines and circles, and the beauty of repetition.”
The rest was not as lovely.

Back in September, before @moodlenet even tested federation, they released a User Agreement and a Covenant for Instance Administrators, which contains very sensible rules around respecting users and protecting minorities / commonly persecuted groups.

This federated #ActivityPub project for sharing educational resources sets a great example. If you are developing a decentralised project on which you expect people to interact, please follow their lead! 💚

@GinnyMcQueen thanks for fighting the good fight, and so sorry it has been taking such a huge toll for so long. Please know that what you wrote motivated me to do more to change this shitty culture. 💚
