@SoniEx2 Right right right, thanks for input! But, aren't logs and the read/unread thing something that is developed for each aggregator? I.e. If we wanted to, we could add that to a fork of Mastodon, right? Would you see an ideal situation as both standards living together side-by-side with an aggregator capable of putting both types of objects in the same timeline, with maybe automatic subjects like the first few non-connecting words in the object's text body?
btw when you're used to a DE QWERTZ keyboard and you want to type a :) on a US QWERTY it comes out as a >( and that's exactly how I feel about the layouts respectively, no kidding.
So hang on, all that recent #Federation / #activitypub development means that ultimately we'd have a kind of supercharged #RSS that allows us to have an account wherever we want and aggregate the remote microblogging + blogging + videos + pic thread + audio of the federated accounts/profiles/channels that we want? Please say yes? #fediverse#pleroma#peertube#mastodon#funkwhale#pixelfed
How interestingly non-normal is the distribution of my #ratings on #TMDB, based on 404 ratings of #movies and shows. Is this is common thing with ratings on numerical scales? #stats
Yay after about ten days without links to the Fediverse, our small instance is federating again. If anyone is wondering, an update from 2.3 to 2.4 did it. Thanks @pierreozoux ! Now, time to retoot the toots that disappointingly got no reactions 😉 (does that even work though?)
hey everybody! just wanted to let people know that thanks to everybody who contributed to #500pieces we saved THREE TERABYTES of open, cc-licensed images from 500px over only two days!
You can view the hard work of the volunteers at the IA collection, including dozens of people who heard about it specifically from mastodon. Thanks to @eq for providing the initial mastodon call for action!
I dont accept ads, or aggressive brand/s accts or paid toots (I’ve been approached) but I do support free & #opensource programs. We have some amazing creative orgs represented on the #Fediverse thru :mastodon: #Mastodon’s super-scalable #ActivityPub implementation.
If you havent tried them then you’re missing out (a-z). U have control over ur social & creative lives w #FLOSS

@clayton I feel your pain. Don't hesitate to say "Sorry, I realised I don't have the means to give this the attention it deserves, so I would rather drop it for now". Take care.
- Microsoft will have direct access to accounts instead of needing to scrape
- Microsoft will create shadow accounts on LinkedIn for people it cannot directly identify, else there will be shadow profiles of yourself you cannot see
- Microsoft will be able to keep statistics on how many LoC you write in each language and even number of defects/warnings per XX lines of code fresh (every git push !)
- Recruiters will pay big for this data to find you and spam the shit out of you
- This data will directly affect your salary range for job offers (fucking bullshit)
- Microsoft and LinkedIn will become the largest tech recruiting firm in the world
Happy to be #movingtoGitLab for now. Yes, I know about #IPFS and other decentralised options, and the risk of simply moving to yet another centralised business, but for the moment this is probably not a good choice for me because of (1) the extra work, (2) the loss of bells and whistles that #GitLab and #GitHub add on top of Git, (3) the fact that IPFS is still alpha, and (4 ) the requirement to still use something accessible for the wider public because I teach and interact with beginners.
If you're concerned about Microsoft taking over Github for even irrelevant reasons:
Take this opportunity to migrate your repos to git-ssb or git-ipfs, instead of moving to another temporary host-tied third party thing like gitlab or bitbucket.
Your commits are already identified by hashes, so why not switch to hashes entirely & use an NDN/DHT system?
